Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atacan Emre Kocman

FEBOPRAS-Certified Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atacan Emre Kocman is a plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery specialist with extensive clinical, surgical and academic experience. His practice covers aesthetic procedures involving the face, breasts and body, as well as reconstructive operations performed to restore form and function after trauma, disease, congenital conditions or previous surgery.
His principal surgical interests include tummy tuck surgery, liposuction, breast surgery, facelift, neck lift, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, gynecomastia treatment, Brazilian butt lift and body-lifting procedures.
As a FEBOPRAS-certified surgeon, Dr. Kocman combines specialist surgical training with an individualised approach to treatment planning. Each procedure is evaluated according to the patient’s anatomy, general health, expectations and medical suitability.
Medical Education and Specialist Training
Dr. Kocman graduated from Ege University in 2000. He then completed six years of specialist training in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Eskisehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine.
During his specialist training, he attended professional educational programmes abroad and gained experience in different areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Following his residency, he worked in several cities and healthcare institutions as part of his compulsory and military service. This period allowed him to gain experience with patients presenting with a wide range of aesthetic and reconstructive concerns.
International and Academic Experience
Dr. Kocman worked for two years in Kazakhstan, where he served both as a hospital manager and as a plastic surgery specialist. This international experience contributed to his understanding of different healthcare environments, patient expectations and clinical management processes.
He began his academic career in 2012 and continued working in academic medicine until 2021. During this period, he combined patient care with medical education and academic responsibilities.
Since 2021, he has continued to provide consultations and surgical care through his private clinical practice.
Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic surgery includes both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. Although aesthetic surgery focuses on improving proportions, contours or visible features, reconstructive surgery aims to repair tissue and restore function after injury, disease, congenital differences or previous operations.
Dr. Kocman performs both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. His experience in reconstructive surgery supports a detailed understanding of tissue healing, surgical anatomy, scar management and the restoration of natural form.
Treatment recommendations are made after evaluating the patient’s medical history, physical characteristics, expectations and possible risk factors.
Body Contouring Surgery
Body contouring procedures are designed to improve the shape and proportions of different areas of the body. They may be considered after pregnancy, significant weight loss, ageing or changes in body composition.
Dr. Kocman’s body contouring practice includes:
Mini tummy tuck
Extended tummy tuck
360-degree tummy tuck
Traditional liposuction
Vaser liposuction
Arm lift
Thigh lift
Brazilian butt lift
Scar revision
The appropriate procedure depends on the amount and location of excess skin, fat distribution, abdominal muscle condition, skin elasticity and the patient’s desired outcome.
Liposuction may help reduce localised fat deposits, but it is not a weight-loss treatment. Patients with significant skin laxity may require a lifting procedure in addition to liposuction.
Tummy Tuck Surgery
Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is performed to remove excess abdominal skin and improve the contour of the abdomen. Depending on the patient’s anatomy, the procedure may also include repair of separated abdominal muscles.
A mini tummy tuck may be considered when the concern is mainly located below the navel. An extended or 360-degree tummy tuck may be more appropriate for patients with excess skin extending around the waist, hips or lower back.
The recommended technique is selected following physical examination. Pregnancy history, weight changes, previous abdominal surgery, skin quality and abdominal muscle condition can all influence the treatment plan.
Liposuction
Dr. Kocman performs both traditional and Vaser liposuction procedures.
Liposuction is used to remove localised fat deposits and improve body contours. Common treatment areas may include the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, arms, back and under the chin.
Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound-assisted technology to help separate fat before removal. The choice between Vaser and traditional liposuction depends on the treatment area, tissue characteristics, the amount of fat to be removed and the patient’s overall surgical plan.
Liposuction does not guarantee weight loss or prevent future weight gain. Maintaining stable body weight and a healthy lifestyle is important for preserving the result.
Breast Surgery
Dr. Kocman’s areas of practice include breast augmentation, breast uplift and breast reduction.
Breast augmentation is performed to increase breast volume or improve breast shape. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and expectations, treatment may involve breast implants or another individually selected approach.
Breast uplift surgery is designed to reshape and reposition breasts affected by pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes or ageing. In some cases, an uplift may be combined with breast augmentation.
Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to create a breast size that is more proportionate to the patient’s body. It may also help patients experiencing physical symptoms associated with large breasts.
Every breast procedure requires careful evaluation of breast anatomy, skin quality, existing asymmetry, nipple position and the patient’s expectations.
Facial Aesthetic Surgery
Dr. Kocman performs a range of facial aesthetic procedures designed to address age-related changes, facial proportions and individual concerns.
His facial surgery practice includes:
Facelift
Neck lift
Forehead lift
Temporal lift
Lip lift
Eyelid surgery
Rhinoplasty
Scar revision
Facial procedures should be planned according to the patient’s bone structure, soft tissues, skin quality and natural facial proportions.
The objective of facial aesthetic surgery is not to create the same appearance for every patient. Treatment planning should preserve individual facial characteristics while addressing the patient’s specific concerns.
Facelift and Neck Lift
Facelift and neck lift procedures may be considered by patients experiencing skin laxity, changes in the jawline, lower-face ageing or loss of definition in the neck.
A facelift primarily addresses tissues in the lower and middle areas of the face, while a neck lift focuses on the neck and jawline. These procedures may be performed separately or together depending on the patient’s needs.
The surgical plan is based on the degree of tissue laxity, skin quality, facial anatomy and the patient’s expectations. Additional procedures may sometimes be considered when ageing affects several facial areas.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery may be performed to address excess skin, tissue laxity or visible changes around the upper or lower eyelids.
The procedure should be planned carefully because the eyelids play an important functional role in protecting the eyes. The surgeon evaluates eyelid position, surrounding tissues, facial anatomy and any existing eye-related symptoms before recommending treatment.
The objective is to achieve an appropriate improvement while maintaining natural eyelid function and facial harmony.
Rhinoplasty
Dr. Kocman performs primary, revision and ethnic rhinoplasty.
Primary rhinoplasty refers to surgery performed on a patient who has not previously undergone nasal surgery. Revision rhinoplasty is performed to address functional or aesthetic concerns following a previous operation.
Ethnic rhinoplasty requires an individual approach that considers the patient’s anatomical characteristics, facial identity and treatment expectations.
Rhinoplasty planning may include evaluation of:
The final surgical approach is determined after detailed examination. No single rhinoplasty technique is appropriate for every patient.
Gynecomastia Surgery
Gynecomastia is the enlargement of male breast tissue. It may be associated with glandular tissue, excess fat or a combination of both.
Surgical treatment may involve liposuction, removal of glandular tissue or a combined approach. Patients with significant skin laxity may require additional skin removal.
Before surgery is recommended, the cause and characteristics of the enlargement should be evaluated. Relevant medical conditions, medications, hormonal factors and weight changes may need to be considered during the assessment.
Brazilian Butt Lift
Brazilian butt lift surgery uses fat obtained from another area of the patient’s body to reshape or add volume to the buttocks.
The procedure generally involves liposuction, preparation of the collected fat and controlled fat transfer.
Patient selection and surgical safety are especially important for this procedure. The amount of transferable fat, body anatomy, skin quality and overall health must be evaluated before treatment is planned.
No specific volume or result can be guaranteed because part of the transferred fat may be naturally absorbed during healing.
Scar Revision
Scar revision procedures aim to improve the appearance, position or texture of an existing scar. A scar cannot usually be removed completely, but its visibility may sometimes be reduced.
The treatment approach depends on the scar’s location, size, age, colour, thickness and relationship to the surrounding tissues.
Some scars may be treated surgically, while others may require non-surgical treatment or a combination of methods. The appropriate option is determined after direct examination.
Individual Treatment Planning
Every patient has different anatomical characteristics, health conditions and expectations. For this reason, surgical procedures should not be recommended through a standardised approach.
Before treatment, the consultation process may include assessment of:
Medical history
Previous operations
Current medications
Known allergies
Smoking and alcohol use
Chronic medical conditions
Previous anaesthesia experiences
Physical anatomy
Treatment expectations
Possible surgical risk factors
The proposed procedure, expected recovery, potential risks, limitations and alternative options should be discussed before the patient makes a decision.
Patient Safety and Informed Consent
All surgical procedures involve potential risks. No surgeon or clinic can ethically guarantee a completely risk-free operation or a specific aesthetic result.
Patient safety depends on appropriate medical assessment, qualified surgical care, suitable hospital conditions, anaesthesia planning and structured postoperative monitoring.
Depending on the planned procedure and the patient’s health history, additional blood tests, imaging, anaesthesia assessment or specialist consultations may be required.
Patients should provide complete and accurate medical information. Smoking, chronic illnesses, previous surgery and certain medications may affect healing and complication risk.
International Patient Consultations
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atacan Emre Kocman provides consultations for international patients considering plastic, reconstructive or aesthetic surgery in Istanbul.
Patients may submit photographs, medical information, previous operation details and treatment expectations for a preliminary assessment.
An online assessment can provide initial guidance, but it does not replace a physical examination. The final treatment plan and confirmation of medical suitability are determined after direct evaluation by the surgeon.
International patients should receive clear information regarding:
Required medical tests
The proposed surgical procedure
Anaesthesia arrangements
Expected hospital stay
Recommended length of stay in Türkiye
Recovery stages
Postoperative restrictions
Flight planning
Follow-up requirements
